Air Shows

Air Shows

Being an engineer, I suppose it's natural that I like seeing jets flying very fast. We used to have decent air shows at Moffett Naval Air Station before it was closed several years ago. The air show at the CN Expo in Toronto over Labor Day weekend is also worth seeing. This year (2002) I went to the Fleet Week Air Show in San Francisco, and the Miramar Air Show in San Diego. Both would be worth seeing again.

Fleet Week

Although the Fleet Week Air Show doesn't have as many demonstrations as most air shows, it is probably one of the few air shows that takes place in a major metropolitan area. The setting is also one of the most beautiful in the world. It's one of the few air shows I've been to where the planes occasionally fly directly over the audience. Here are a few photos from past Fleet Week shows.

Miramar 2002

The Miramar Air Show had the most hardware of any air show I've seen. Besides the numerous flying demonstrations, there were lots and lots of static displays as well. Be forewarned that getting out of the air show can take hours.
