These images were created using Mid Night Modeller and POV-Ray (3.0), both freeware, on my Pentium PC at home. The technique used here is called raytracing and can produce very realistic images, or not so realistic ones, limited only by your imagination. There is an excellent webpage about POV-Ray with lots of amazing computer graphics.
Time has passed and POV-Ray 3.1 is now the current release. Other tools have also improved so I'm now using Moray 3.1 as the modeller. I got back into raytracing in order to simulate a skylight I wanted to install in my living room. Faster computers have also had a big impact on what can be done now.
