RITSURIN-KOEN

Ritsurin-koen

Ritsurin-koen is located in Takamatsu on the island of Shikoku. You can get there by taking a train from Okayama to Takamatsu, then taking a local train to the garden. The JR line has a stop at the north entrance of the garden, but that entrance doesn't open until about 8:30am. The main entrance on the east side opens at sunrise, which is at 5:30am in the summer! Ritsurin-koen is a large garden with many ponds and islands. It was started over 300 years ago. It's famous for its many (thousands?) of carefully tended pine trees. It was well worth the effort it took to get there.
