Miho Museum

The Miho Museum was designed by I.M. Pei specifically to house the Shumei Family art collection. The museum is located outside Kyoto in the mountains of Shiga Prefecture. Although no figures are given, no expense was spared to build the museum and to enlarge the collection as the construction was taking place. An entire mountain top was removed, the museum built and then buried and landscaped to look as the mountain originally did. You walk to the museum through a curved tunnel and then a unique suspension bridge. The collection is quite impressive, but so is the building itself.
