MIYAJIMA
Miyajima
Miyajima is an island just a little west of Hiroshima. You can get there by
taking a JR ferry. The island is best known for its shrine which is built
over the ocean water. If you go there at the wrong time, you'll see (and
smell) a lot of mud flats and seaweed. However, it only takes a few hours
for the tide to turn things around. Also on the island is a small aquarium,
which really isn't worth the admission price. What is worthwhile is the
ropeway (gondola) which takes you to a peak on the island. From there the
views are spectacular.
This is a panorama spanning about 180 degrees, created by stitching together
individual frames grabbed from my camcorder. Here are some panoramas of the
temple.
